Certification of Italian as a Foreign Language - CILS
Thanks to an agreement between our school and Siena University for Foreigners it is possible to do the exam to get the CILS certificate. This certification is recognized by the Italian State in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This exam evaluates and attests the level of competence of the student. This exam can be prepared through preparatory courses organized by our school.
Who needs CILS Certification?
CILS certification is required in the professional world, for teaching Italian, or to enroll in Italian Universities. The CILS TWO level – B2 is required for the admission of foreign students into Italian Universities, therefore who has this certification is exempted from doing the Italian language exam. Moreover, the possession of CILS constitutes a higher score in the ranking deriving from the Universities’ admission exams. Many Italian workplaces or companies recognize the CILS Certificates as fundamental requirements for working with foreigners.
CILS levels
CILS exam is structured in 6 levels, in accordance to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and evaluates: the listening comprehension ability, the reading comprehension ability, the written and oral production, the ability to control linguistic structures and the metalinguistic competence in Italian language.

CILS A1
|
The CILS A1 level is for those who are in their initial stage of learning of the Italian language.

The duration of CILS A1exams is two hours.

CILS A2
|
The CILS A2 level attests an initial competence more advanced than A1, but yet not completely autonomous from the communicative point of view.

CILS UNO - B1
|
The CILS ONE level corresponds to the B1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and it is the basic level in linguistic competence: it verifies the linguistic-communicative skills to use the Italian language in a proper and autonomous way, in the most frequent situations in everyday life.

The duration of the exam is approximately three hours.

CILS DUE - B2
|
The CILS TWO level corresponds to the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and it is the intermediate level of linguistic-communicative competence. It implies a superior ability in using the elements of the language’s fundamental area and allows to manage a larger variety of situations typical of the everyday life. The possession of this certificate enables foreigners to enroll in Italian Universities without doing the exam for the knowledge of Italian language.

CILS TRE - C1
|
The CILS THREE level corresponds to the C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and it is the superior level of linguistic-communicative competence: it implies an extension of the area of linguistic usages and communication contexts. It allows to communicate in formal relations of public type and in work relations.

The duration of the exam is approximately five hours.

CILS QUATTRO - C2
|
The CILS FOUR level corresponds to the C2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and it is the advanced level of linguistic-communicative competence. It implies a further extension of linguistic usages and the real ability to master a large variety of communicational situations. It allows to interact in all the  situations: not only informal but also formal and professional.

The duration of the exam is approximately five and a half hours.

All the exams are produced and evaluated by the Certification Center of Siena University for Foreigners on the basis of the European parameters determined in the documents of the European Council. In order to obtain the CILS certification the candidate has to reach a minimum score in all the abilities tested by the exam. Â If the candidate reaches the minimum score only in some abilities the result can be capitalized: in the following exam the candidate can be tested only in the abilities he/she did not pass. The capitalized abilities are valid for one year beginning from the first exam.
Next exam sessions
The exam can be done in Sicily at Federico II School of Italian Language and Culture, twice in a year, in June and December. Â The next dates for the CILS exam are:

, transfer the related Exam Tax and communicate it to the secretary of the Italian school Federico II within and not later than 50 days before the exam date. The deadline for the payment of the tax fee for the exam of June 7th 2012 is April 24th 2012.
Preparatory Courses for CILS exam
During the afternoon our school organizes courses preparing to the CILS exams. The goal of these courses is to develop and improve the linguistic skills and competences tested in the exam for the CILS certification. It is possible to organize group courses or individual lessons for those who want to deepen the specific aspects related to the exam or the requested skills. The schedule of the group or individual courses can be arranged with the responsible teacher.

15 hours indivudual lessons: 350 €.
